Double grab spiderman wall plant=good (boa), board to the face=bad (mau)

jonatas This is Jonatas doing 2 kinds of crazy shit, sort of a yin and yang effect if you please. Good versus Bad, Boa versus Mau, whatever language you put it, it’s pretty hefty on the gnar-gnar sauce. Filmed in Rio de Janeiro, specifically a spot called “Galpao” in Nova Iguacu.

  • Ademar “Luquinhas” Lucas

    Ademar “Luquinhas” Lucas

Luquinhas is an extremely gifted person and very humble at the same time, which can be a rare thing. I’ve never heard anyone say a bad thing about him, and if you get to meet him you’ll know doubt understand why. The guy just radiates good vibes, so expect big things because he’s way younger than you and he has more tricks than the biggest Putaria in Brasil….. So, lets start with the typical questions…name, age, sponsors? Ademar Lucas aka [...]

Rafael Gomes, Barra de Tijuca bowl

rafael-gomes-bowl While filming for the first Avuatauba video in Rio de Janeiro, I ended up with a ton of footage that I’ve been meaning to put up. Here’s Brazilian pro Rafael Gomes warming up at the bowl right beside the classic street spot, Praca de O.

  • The Santo Amaro Gap

    The Santo Amaro Gap

Located in the Zona Sul of Rio de Janiero, this gap sees very few visitors due to the chunky nature of the landing….and the takeoff….actually, pretty much everything about this gap is complete shite. Ademar Lucas aka Luquinhas and the homies from neighbourhood give it a go. The Santo Amaro Gap Luquinhas is killing it nowadays, he was recently touring around the Brasil with Marcelo D2 and designer Felipe Motta filming for a Brazilian MTV show called Aparelhagem

  • Come Rato Throwback footy

It’s pronounced Ko-Me-Ha-Too. In honour of Come Rato’s big interview in Concrete Wave, here’s some throwback footage all the way from January 2002. I think this was actually the first time I met the dude, and also the same time Christian Hosoi was in jail for dealing meth. Ooops! Fact of the day: Come Rato means “Eat Rat”  in Portuguese. Watch or download the good quality version here: Come-Rato-rio-sul-2002 If you like to watch shitty quality versions, the youtube is [...]

  • Zumbi

Zumbi is a crazy spot in centro, Rio de Janeiro, right in a traffic island inside one of the main streets downtown. It’s a surreal spot….during the week you’re completely surrounded by traffic and on top of the pyramid is a giant sculpture of the head of Zumbi Dos Palmares. Here’s Emanuel “Enxacueca” Ribas, pro skater for Drop Dead , Libra Shoes and Crail trucks and a few more. Dennis Busenitz hits this spot in the DVS video Skate More [...]

  • The Botafogo Banks

You know those spots that are almost perfect, but just have one minor imperfection? This isn’t one of those spots. EVERYTHING is wrong with this spot. In addition to the glue sniffing gangsters sleeping in the tunnel, the entire ground is made up of freaking cobblestones. Actually, it’s called “Pedra Portugues” which is Portuguese (duhhhhh) for Portuguese stone. Although it’s very stylish and slick looking, it completely shite for skateboarding on. Most of the sidewalks of Rio de Janeiro are [...]

  • The Brazilian Jeron Wilson

In 2002 I met this guy at the Lagoa bowl in Rio de Janeiro who looked exactly like Jeron Wilson. Not very ironically, it turned out that his nickname is, well, Jeron Wilson. He’s an amazing skater, and I ran into him recently at a very random place, the Rocinha Skatepark in 2007. I say it’s a random place to meet for 2 reasons.. 1) Rocinha is the largest favela in South America, and  people go either because they live [...]
